epublishing.ekt.gr: Open Access to Scientific Journals, eBooks and eProceedings

31/01/2013

The National Documentation Centre of Greece (EKT) launched a new portal which provides open access to scholarly eJournals, eBooks and eProceedings, as well as a range of integrated publishing services to the country's academic community. Covering an array of scientific fields, EKT ePublishing today hosts 10 peer-reviewed academic eJournals (more than 2000 thousands of open access articles), plenty of eBooks and eProceedings.

Users can navigate through the directories of eBooks, eProceedings and eJournals, browse through 48 scientific fields, index of authors and publishers or conduct an advanced search using the embedded search engine. The portal's content is continually updated with new entries. That's because, more than a dynamic application, EKT ePublishing embodies a business process which reinforces EKT's vision to contribute to the process of transition to new models of e-science.

Since 1980, the National Documentation Centre of Greece (www.ekt.gr) actively engages in the aggregation, organization and dissemination of scientific and technological information in Greece and internationally. Relying on a long tradition of technical expertise and valuable experience, EKT follows the recent developments in scholarly communication to promote alternative ways of publishing and managing scientific content, assisted by technology and based on wide-spreading business models which enable the internationalization of Greek scientific publications.

Digital journals at EKT ePublishing are a result of the institution's successful co-operation with publishers of peer-reviewed journals and institutions/organizations with international prestige in the field of research and culture. Organizations and research institutions can benefit from EKT's publishing services and enhance their publishing capabilities and management procedures by selecting as many or as few services needed.

EKT’s ePublishing services include, most significantly, the organization, documentation and organized dissemination of metadata and content of scholarly journals, training and consulting services on issues such as the standardization of editorial processes according to internationally accepted standards, intellectual property, the inclusion of content and metadata in international content indexers and harvesters via interoperable systems. E-publishing services are addressed to public institutions and publishers of accredited scholarly journals as well as to the wider public.

EKT ePublishing services are part of the activities that take place in the frame of the National Informational System of Research and Technology –NIRST (Operational Programme "Digital Convergence") which is being implemented by the National Documentation Centre of Greece (EKT).
