Wikipedia Celebrates Ten years: Enhancing the Greek Version

Monday, January 17, 2011
National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens

Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedeia, used and devoped by millions of internet users worldwide, celebrates its tenth anniversary. On this occasion, the National Documentation Center  (EKT) hosts an event dedicated to Wikipedia's Greek version. The event is co organized by the National Network of Science and Technology with the collaboration of the Greek Free / Open Source Software Society (GFOSS), the National Documentation Center and Wikipedia's editors.

Today's Greek version of Wikipedia includes more than 58.000 terms, 650 active users and 18 administrators. With an aim to improve its quality and quantity, the Greek Free / Open Source Software Society (GFOSS) led an initiative for raising the public's awareness on Wikipedia's use. Their objective is to make wikipedia, an essential tool for the educational process and citizen's everyday life

The invitation is addressed to those who wish  to participate to the Wikipedia's experience ( users, editors, authors) and contribute to its improvement and enhancement. For this reason, a number of presentations are taking place during the workshop. Since there is a limited number of places for participation in the workshop (60), please make a reservation online (http://go.eellak.gr/wikipedia17012010). The event will be broadcasted live on the web (www.ekt.gr). Entrance is free.
