The presentation reports on the preliminary results of a research conducted by the National Center for Documentation of Greece (EKT) in autumn 2010. The survey  was addresed to  Byzantinte scholars .It rates users' needs and satisfaction related with the electronic publication of the e-journal 'Byzantina Symmeikta'. The survey also reviews researcher's perceptions on e-publishing and more particularly, their views and opinions on open access publishing .

Results suggest that Byzantine scholars increasingly rely on e-publishing while supporting and conducting their research. Although the majority of scholars express positive opinions on e -publishing and open access policies, the vast majority has not submitted work on an e-journal or on any open access journal. Younger and new researchers on Byzantine Studies are more likely to publish their work online, they are more familiar with e journals and report positive experiences related to the use of e-journals. Findings suggest that we can expect future developments related to scholarly communication in the field of Byzantine Studies.
