To self-archive is to deposit a free copy of a digital document  on the web and thus enable others to access it. The term 'self-archiving' is used to refer to the process according to which authors deposit  their work to repositories of peer-reviewd research journals or institutional repositories, for the purpose of maximizing its accessibility, usage and citation impact.
